In a series of articles on behind the scenes on the web portal European Capital of Culture Rijeka 2020, the team of the Center for Industrial Heritage : Ema Aničić , Kristina Pandža and Ivana Golob Mihić was interviewed by the ECOC team.

We talked about current projects, our thoughts on industrial heritage and culture in Rijeka and the meaning of the title of European Capital of Culture for Rijeka.

Hostel Dharma in Rijeka was elected in 2015 to the finals among 10 candidates for the award Sustainable Tourism Award by an international network European Cultural Tourism Network. Because of this, the renovation project of the hostel got the opportunity to become a part of the network Industriana and get the QR tag, which leads to a description of industrial heritage and its re-use.


INDUSTRIANA is an independent community of European industrial and technical heritage sites and museums and their visitors, aiming to map them on a European platform, to promote them, linking them and establishing contacts between one another.
It is an initiative launched with the support and under the patronage of E-FAITH, the European Federation of Associations of Industrial and Technical Heritage – as one of the permanent results of the 2015 European Industrial and Technical Heritage Year.

Centre for Industrial Heritage has been a part of the 8th Annual International Conference organized by the ECTNon the topic of INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE: PROSPECTS FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT. The Conference has been held in Riga on the 18th and 19th September 2015.

We had a presentation on the topic – Industrial Heritage and New Technologies and we presented our project “Digtization of Rijeka’s Industrial Heritage” as an example of successful use of technologies for systematization and presentation of heritage.

Ceremony for the AWARD for ‘Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism 2015’ on the topic of Industrial Heritage was also held during the Conference, for which Hostels Dharma form Rijeka was one of the candidate.

Center has also participated in the annual ECTN General Assembly meeting on the 17th September.
