On Thursday, July 20th 2017, a press conference was held to present the project “Touristic Valorization of Rijeka Industrial Heritage Representative Monuments”. The leader of the project is the City of Rijeka and the project represents an integrated development project based on the revitalization and protection of two industrial heritage monuments in the area of Rijeka – The Ship Galeb and the Sugar Palace in the former industrial complex Rikard Benčić. The project was co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund with nearly 6 million kuna, and part of the funds allocated will be spent on museum exhibitions on the Ship Galeb and at the Sugar Palace.
Rijeka City Mayor Vojko Obersnel, Project Manager and Head of the City of Rijeka’s Department of Culture Ivan Šarar, City Museum Director Ervin Dubrović, and Director of the Rijeka Cultural Heritage Department in the City of Rijeka Nikolina Radić Štivić, spoke about the implementation of the project.
Project partners are the University of Rijeka – Center for Industrial Heritage and the City of Rijeka Tourism Board.
